reception hall and crematorium De Nieuwe Ooster Amsterdam

The impressive reception hall dating from 1939 has been extended with a new crematorium situated behind the hall. The reception rooms on both sides of the hall have been renovated. A round lifting platform that drops down into the floor has been installed in the striking main axis, running through the hall to the cemetery. Here there is a custom-designed unit made of artificial stone, a catafalque on which the coffin is placed. At the end of a cremation service the coffin is raised by means of a custom-designed lift. The bereaved can then take their final leave of the departed at the furnace.
